INFORMATION

Practical information to help you get started.

Below you’ll find answers to some common questions about therapy at Inner Strength Therapy, along with the forms you’ll need before beginning.

Confidentiality

What you discuss in therapy is treated as private and confidential.

There are, however, limited circumstances where confidentiality may need to be broken, including where there is a serious risk to your safety or the safety of another person, or where disclosure is required by law.

I will explain confidentiality and its limits more fully before we begin working together, and you are always welcome to ask questions about how your information is handled.

AI-Assisted Session Notes

With your consent, I may use a secure AI-assisted tool during sessions to help create clinical notes. You will be informed about its use and your consent will be obtained before it is used.

Further information about how this technology is used and how your privacy is protected is provided in the Privacy & Consent Form.

Session Length

A standard therapy session is approximately 50 minutes.

When we are actively processing memories using EMDR, I will often recommend a longer session of approximately 75 to 100 minutes. This allows sufficient time for processing while also ensuring there is time to appropriately close and settle at the end of the session.

Longer sessions are priced according to the additional session time and will always be discussed and agreed with you beforehand.

Session Frequency

Most clients attend therapy fortnightly, which provides regularity and continuity while allowing time between sessions to reflect on and integrate the work.

Weekly sessions can also be beneficial, particularly when greater therapeutic momentum or support is helpful, and can be arranged where our schedules allow.

The frequency of therapy will depend on your individual needs, the type of work we are doing and practical considerations, and we can discuss together what feels both therapeutically appropriate and sustainable for you.

Fees

Fees will be discussed with you before your first appointment, so you are clear about the cost of therapy before we begin.

Discounted packages are available when purchasing 6 or 10 sessions in advance.

Longer sessions, including extended EMDR processing sessions, are priced according to the length of the appointment and will always be discussed and agreed with you beforehand.

Depending on your level of Extras cover, you may also be eligible for a partial rebate through Medibank, AHM, Bupa, ARHG or HCF. Please check directly with your health fund to confirm your individual eligibility and rebate.

Cancellation Policy

I require at least two working days’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

Appointments cancelled or changed with less than two working days’ notice may be charged the full session fee.

Weekends and public holidays are not considered working days for the purpose of the cancellation policy.

Your First Session

Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin understanding what brings you to therapy, what you would like to change and some of the experiences that may have shaped how you’re feeling today.

You won’t be expected to tell me everything or talk about traumatic experiences before you’re ready. We will work at a pace that feels appropriate for you, and there will be time for you to ask questions and get a sense of whether working together feels right.
